CHAPTER THREE
METHODOLOGY
Preamble
This chapter deals with the methodology used in the study, such as research design, population of the study, instrument for data collection sample and sampling technique, validity of the instrument, reliability of the instrument, procedure for data collection, method of data analysis.
Research Design
The research design adopted for this work is the descriptive survey design. This design was used to find out secondary school students perception of the causes of delinquent behaviours in Ilorin metropolis. Descriptive survey refer to as a technique of quantitative description which determines the prevailing conditions in a group of cases chosen for study assuming that thing will change it covers many traits or characteristics of the group. The design was adopted because it is very effective as an approach to a thorough and indept investigation. The researchers got the information from the students in their natural behavioural situations.
Sample and Sampling Techniques
The population of the study consist all the student in public secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis. Sample Random sampling was used to select five secondary schools in Ilorin metropolis in which fifty students were selected from J.S.S and S.S.S classes in each of the five schools, making a total of two hundred and fifty students. The age of the student are between 11 and 20 years. The simple random sampling was done using balloting with replacing.
Instrumentation
The instruments for this study are a validated questionnaire titled “causes of delinquent behaviour questionnaire†(C.D.B.Q). The questionnaire was constructed in such as sample way so as not to create boredom. The respondents are required to indicate whether they Agree, Disagree, Strongly Agree or Strongly Disagree about the option given. The questionnaire was divided into two (2) sections A and B. Section “A†contained personal data of the respondents regarding their class level, gender and age. Section “B†comprised of 15 items designed to investigate the perception of secondary school students on the cause of delinquent behaviour.
