Pilot Study
To determine the usability of the instrument questionnaire for this research was first administered to a group of forty (40) students that represent the population of interest. The respondents responded to the questionnaire and areas of difficulty were resolved. They were able to respond to the items with little or no difficulty.
Validity of the Instrument
When an instrument measures what it is supposed to measure, it can be described as being valid. To ascertain the validity of the questionnaire it was given to four (4) experts in the department of Counsellor Education. Irrelevant items were deleted some were modified and new one added.
Reliability of the Instrument
When an instrument is consistent in measuring what it is supposed to measure over time it can be described as being reliable. The Person Product Movement Correlation Co-efficient was used to determine the reliability of the instrument. The instrument was administered twice to a group of forty (40) students at an interval of four weeks. The correlation co-efficient of the scores got form the two administration indicate 0.05 which is considered adequate for the study.
Procedure for Data Collection
The researcher personally administered the instrument on the respondent with the help of a research assistant who was trained by the researcher. The researcher and the research assistant explained unclear items as the questionnaire to the respondents were expected to respond to the items in the questionnaire and return immediately.
Data collected was analysed using frequency counts and percentages to analyse the personal data of respondents while the t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical procedure were used to test the stated hypotheses; all hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance.
