This project examine"The influence of Health and Vital statistics in the control of Epidemic": A case study of University of Benin Teaching Hospital Benin City, Edo state. In order to effectively carry out this work, four research questions were raised and a descriptive (Case study) design was adopted while simple random sampling technique was used in selecting a sample of 109 respondents from the total population of one hundred and fifty (150) records staff in UBTH. A self - constructed and validated questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection.
They were all administered to One hundred and nine (109) respondents and all were adequately filled and retrieved.The results gotten from the respondents showed that most of the Health Information managers have good knowledge on the influence of health and vital statistics in the control of epidemic in the hospital, this was seen in the positive majority responses of the respondents to the questions asked in the questionnaire.
The study revealed that Health and Vital Statistics is effective in the control of Epidemic in UBTH and the major challenge was the shortage of manpower. It was concluded that Health Records professionals have a key role to play in the influence of Health and Vital Statistics in the control of Epidemic. The study recommended that government should employ enough and competent staff in order to collate heath and vital statistics correctly and also provide appropriate tools and adequate provision of storage facilities that are required for health and vital statistics for effective recording.
