CHAPTER FOUR
PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS OF DATA
The purpose of the study was to determine the influence of location and gender on selected motor skills performance among secondary school students in 50 metres dash, standing broad jump (SBJ), and 10 metres shuttle run. In this chapter, the results of the analysis of data for the study were presented. The results attempted to answer the research questions and tested the hypotheses formulated for the study.
Research Question 1
How does location influence girls’ performance in 50 metres dash, standing broad jump and 10 metres shuttle run? The data presented on tables 1, 2 and 3 provided the answer to the question. The data on table 1 indicates that in 50 metres dash, urban and rural girls mean scores were 8.28 and 7.73 respectively. Standard deviation was 0.92 and 0.73 respectively. This implies that rural girls’ mean score was less than the mean score of urban girls, thus rural girls performed better than urban girls in this exercise.
The data on the same Table 1 indicated that in standing broad jump urban and rural girls’ mean scores were 1.98 and
1.88 respectively while standard deviations were 0.04 and 0.03 respectively. This implies that urban girls’ mean score was greater than rural girls mean score, therefore urban girls performed better than rural girls.
The data on the same Table 1 again showed that in 10 metres shuttle run urban girls and rural girls mean scores were 17.68 and 16.16 respectively. Standard Deviations were 1.59 and 1.57 respectively. This implies that rural girls mean score was less than urban girls. Rural girls performed better than urban girls.
Research Question 2
How does location influence boys’ performance in 50 meters dash, standing broad jump and 10 meters shuttle run? The data presented in table 2 provided answer to the question.
