Research Topic: Effect of Information Accessibility, Knowledge Acquisition and Management on Transfer System Among Indigenous  Traditional Herbal Medical Practitioners in South West, Nigeria.
Statement of the Problem: The health sector is one of the major sections of Nigerian sectors. It is important because it is only when the majority of the populace are healthy that they can contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation. A healthy nation therefore is a wealthy nation. It is a fact that the indigenous traditional herbal medical sector needs to be restructured to meet the health needs of the citizenry. This is due to the fact that, over the years, there has been a great cause for discontentment concerning the traditional healthcare services in Nigeria by its citizens. Dangbin and Davou (2008) observed that the great cause for discontentment could be because there has been inadequate information on knowledge acquisition and management on transfer system among indigenous traditional herbal medical practitioners in Nigeria.
Several studies have been carried out on health sector and indigenous knowledge. Ibegwam (2013) examined the provision of information to health professionals, resources, sources and services. The study found that health professionals made constant use of health information which are available in print, digital format and on the internet via the world wide web for patient care, continuous education and life-learning. Alhassan (2012) investigated the indigenous knowledge acquisition and transfer among members of  the Nupe Royal music band in Nigeria. The study revealed that indigenous knowledge is clearly acquired and transferred mostly within families who are likely to protect their skills and knowledge as inherited sources of income. Also, Fagbola (2013) studied pertinent knowledge of medicinal plants as elucidated through national newspapers publications in Nigeria. Her findings revealed that the use of medicinal plants is an important part of health care system in Nigeria hence, the need to provide adequate information on the importance of medicinal plants and disseminate information on indigenous knowledge about them.
This study is unique in the sense that it would examine the effects of information accessibility, knowledge acquisition and management on transfer system among indigenous traditional herbal medical practitioners in South West Nigeria.
