Table 31 shows the social effect of respondents on drug abuse. Respondents 7.3% said it lead to conduct problem, 44.8% of respondents lead to rough appearance while 29.2% said it lead to aggressiveness and 19.2% of respondents lead to social dysfunction.
Summary of findings
i. Majority of respondents are between age 21-25 years of age who are engage in drug abuse and substance.
ii. Majority of respondents who are involved in drug abuse and substance are males.
iii. Most of drug abuse/substance intakers are Muslim and single
iv. Majority of respondents are primary school holders.
v. Respondents agreed that they had been taking other drugs aside from medicine while majority said for more than two years.
vi. Respondents also agreed that they were 18 years and above while taking drug
vii. Majority of respondents agreed that they got money to buy drug substance from pocket money and income from business and they got to know about drug substance from friends and they usually bought themselves
viii. Respondents said they took drug substance before the day’s work
ix. Majority of respondents said their health status was fairly good after taking drug substance
x. Majority of respondents said they spent up to N100 - N 200 per day on drug substance and they took drug substance in group
xi. Respondents agreed that peer group, parental influence, social pressure and cultural influence were the main reasons they took drug substance.
xii. Alcohol, cigarettes, Indian hemp and codeine drug are commonly abused by the youth in Sango community.
xiii. Academic performance of the youth in the area are declining, majority of them dropped out of the school and make them indisciplined
ivx. Taking drug affected youth to become physical disability, diseases/illness and lead to suicide attempts.
xv. Drug sustenance lead to apathy, withdrawal, psychosocial dysfunction, personality disorders and short time memory in youth.
xvi. Drug substance lead to conduct problem, rough appearance, aggressiveness and social dysfunction
