CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Introduction
This chapter discusses the method and procedure used in conducting and collecting data for this study. The method is therefore, presented under these auspises Research Design, Population Sample and Sampling Technique, Instrumentation, Validity of the Instrument, Reliability of the Instrument, Method of Data Collection and Method of Data Analysis.
Research Design
The research design used for this study is descriptive survey. This is because the research is structure and considered appropriate resultant for an assessment of secondary school students emolument of Islamic studies in senior school certificate Examination and procedure followed in findings solutions to the problem o its low enrolment. This method according to Leed (1974) is the research method that simply looks with intense accuracy at the phenomenon of the moment and describes precisely what the researcher sees.
Population Sample and Sampling Technique
The population of this study consists of Islamic Studies Students in Senior Secondary Schools in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State; while the target population consists the Islamic Studies Students from the 5 Selected Senior Secondary Schools.
Meanwhile, 20 Islamic studies students were randomly selected from each of the 5 selected senior secondary schools which equal to 100 Islamic studies students. Random sample sampling technique was adopted to select the samples.
Research Instrumentation
The instrument used in gathering data for this study is questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed by the researcher and tagged ASSSE ISSSSCE; it was used for the purpose of eliciting relevant information.
The questionnaire contains 20 items in two sections. Section A consists of items on Demographic Data, such as Age and gender while section. B contains items that used to answer research questions and test the hypothesis generated in the study.
Validity of the Instrument
The researcher submitted the drafted questionnaire to the Project Supervisor and two Experts in Test and Measurement in the Faculty of Education University of Ilorin who vetting. The scrutinizes and suggestions were incorporated into the final draft which was approved by the Supervisor for use in pilot study.
Reliability of the Instrument
Pilot study were carried out in two schools which were not part of the main sample 5 Islamic studies students randomly selected from 2 selected schools which equals to 10 Islamic studies students. The completed questionnaire were statically analyses; the result indicate that the instrument is reliable for this study.
Method of Data Collection
The questionnaire was administered to the respondents by the researcher. The principal of the selected schools as the first person to be contacted. Later, the researcher headed to the Vice Principal (Academic) who then assisted the researcher by reaching the various calls teachers of the selected schools. The questionnaire were read and explained to the participants and they were instructed to ask any questions that are not clear enough. The completed questionnaire was collected.
Method of Data Analysis
Three hypotheses were formulated and tested using analysis of variance (ANOVA) Statistics.
