    • The study examined the training and development of non-professional staff in Nigerian university libraries, focusing on the types of training available, the categories of staff benefiting from these programs, the relevance of course content, and the impact of training on job performance. Using a survey research method, the study assessed six universities: Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Benin, Benin City; University of Ibadan; University of Ilorin; University of Maiduguri; and University of Nigeria Nsukka. The data collected were analyzed and presented in frequency tables and percentages.

The findings indicated that training and development are essential for providing effective and efficient library services, as they equip employees with the necessary skills, capabilities, and attitudes for optimal job performance. The types of training offered include job orientation, formal in-service training, job rotation, typewriting, and computer training. However, several factors hinder the effective implementation of training programs, including lack of funding, inadequate teacher salaries, delays in result processing, insufficient teaching facilities, and a lackadaisical attitude among staff.
