    • 1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

      The significance of the study is on the behaviour of students in the Nigerian territory institution as a result of internet use and exposure. To identify its benefits and challenges to societal growth and development especially in the 21st century of educational and youth advancement.


      1.5 HYPOTHESIS OR RESEARCH QUESTION 

      ? To what extent does internet affect students’ behaviour?

      ? How can the internet controlling bodies affect internet among students?

      ? What cultural heritage does internet expose the students to and how does it affect the society?

      ? How does the internet affect the standard of education?



      1.6 SCOPE OR DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY

      This research is to examine the performance of students in Nigeria in terms of the effect of the internet on Nigeria youths. The researcher has decided on Imo State University, Owerri as a case study. This is because Nigerian students are identical in almost all respects. Since the researcher cannot lay hold on all the students using the internet, the focus will be on the educational impact the internet has on the lives of students. This means that the impact on their social, religious, political and other aspects of their lies will be downplayed.


      1.7 LIMITATION AND CONSTRAINTS

       The researcher was faced with the following limitation and constraints.

      - Lack of co-operation from youths in the process of administering questionnaires and conducting interview.

      - Secrecy

      - Lack of fund because the researcher depends on merger allowances from his guardian.

      Despite the above impediments, the available data would be used thoroughly in the course of this research work.


      1.8 DEFINITION OF TERMS

      INTERNET: This is a computer network consisting of a worldwide network of computers that uses the TCP/IP network protocols to facilitate data transmission (worldnet-web.princton.edu/per/webwe) conventional definition. 

      EFFECT: This is what is produced by an agent or cause, the event which follows immediately from an antecedent, called the cause, result, consequence, outcome, as to space with effect.

      NIGERIA: This is a republic in West Africa on gulf of Guinea. It gained its independence from Britain 1n 1960, most populous African community,

      STUDENTS: At group of persons engaged in study or are devoted to learning, a learner, a pupil, a scholar especially one who attends a school or who seeks knowledge from professional teachers or from books as the students of an academy a college or a university,

      It could also mean a learner who is enrolled in an educational institution (Nkiru Harry2010).
