CHAPTER THREE
GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND IT WORKING PRINCIPLE
3.1 HOPPER UNIT
This is a place where the food product to be grinded, is pour to it, made up of mild steel of 2.4mm thickness. From this unit the food moves to crushing units.
3.2 CRUSHING UNIT
It comprises of the worm and rotating shaft. The worm is constructed from a pipe and cut to be required shapes and sizes of 135mm by 700mm diameter
A portion was cut off to the dimension. The cut made to the worm is to make it well inserted and welded to the base of the hopper.
It is housed to the rotating shaft and permits smooth rotation of the shaft.
The rotating shaft s of iron and machined to the required size of 410mm by 25mm on the lathe machine. This unit crushed the food from hopper units and passes it to the grinding units. The dimension is shown below:
Length of shaft = 110mm
Diameter of shaft = 30mm
Length of step part of the shaft = 85mm
Diameter of step part of the shft = 35mm
3.3 GRINDING UNIT
It consists of two grinding disc in which one is movable and the other is fixed. Both of the disc were made of cast iron, the movable are is on the transmission shaft and rotates when the shaft is rotating.
Below are the dimensions of grinding unit:
External diameter =50mm
Thickness =10mm
3.4 BEARING
Bearing in the grinder serves as a means of supporting the rotational motion of the crushing shaft. It consists of two hardness steel ball and rollers.
A case is an attachment which provides the ball or roller at accurate spacing and prevents them reaching each other.
3.5 PULLEY
This transmits the drive from an electric motor to the rotating shaft through the belt; there is provision for it to be belted to the shaft.
It is of mild steel metal with a groove cut around it, circumstance to accommodate the belt drive connection from the motor.

3.6 MACHINE STAND
This is designed for coefficient carrying from one place to another. It was constructed by welding two angular iron of nd steel together to form a table, thick plank sure face upon which machine is bolted.The dimension of the stand is show below:
Breath = 38mm
Length 19.7mm
Total area
= Length x breath
=19.7x38
= 748.6mm
