2.5.2.4 NCAM multi crop thresher
The National Center for Agricultural mechanization producesthis machine which consists of an upper, the threshing unit, blower and frame. The threshing speed is from 850-1300rpm depending on the crop and concave clearance. The overall dimension is 90×70×14cm3. The power source is either petrol or electricity. (Adewuyi, 2009).
2.6 Reviews on Existing Work on Threshing Machines
Many researchers have worked on threshing machine some of which are:
Ahanoku and Ogunjiri(2004) reported on the design and construction of multi-crop thresher the result of the thresher with multi-crop potential of relatively low labor requirement portable and lost effective was designed and fabricated. The application of auto CAD 200 software of the design resulted in design accuracy, the reduction in design and construction as well as prevent material wastage the thresher has an overall dimension of 900x700x1302mm.Perforamce evaluation test were carried out using maize and sorghum in one pass. No mechanical damage of the threshed crops was observed during the testing.
Abdulsalam and Muhammed (2011) reported on the performance evaluation of a shaker mechanism of an axial flow maize thresher. A case study of before and after modification the performance of two shaker were significantly different at 5% level of significant difference, event at1% the mean performance obtained based on variable feed rate at a constant speed for the shaker before modification were 78.59% mean clearing efficiency and 9.25% mean scatter loss, while of the modification shaker were 91.48% mean clearing efficiency and 3.68% scatter loss.
Oseni(2010) designed constructed and evaluate the performance of a manually operated cowpea thresher for small scale farmers in Nigeria. In northern Nigeria results obtained gave a threshing effectiveness of 85.9, 84.6 and 84.15% for kanannado, Borno brown, and Aloka local respectively. Seed damage was 1.8, 2.3 and 1.9% for kanannado,Borno Brown and Aloka local respectively.
Salakhe (2008) fabricated a threshing unit to study the effect of machine crop variables on the performance of an axial flow thresher for threshing soyabeans.Test result indicated that the threshing efficiency varied from 98 to100%.The grain loss were less than 1 and 1.5% respectively at drum speeds of 600 to 700.PM and 540 to 720kg (plant) feed rates and 14.34 to 22,77%(w/b) seed moisture contents.
Adewumi (2011) designed and fabricated a medium scale, thresher cleaner with conveyer, thresher, fan and cleaning units for grains and legumes. The machine which was subjected to preliminary test using cowpea(Ife Bimpe variety) with a pod moisture content of 14.0 to 22.0% gave threshing efficiency in range of 67.5-97.7% for the same moisture content values.
ullenyawa (2012) reported and investors by Mr. M.T Ismahoon, a star product called Mahawhi Agro multi-thresher a highly versatile machine which thresh, winnow and cleans grain in one operation. The machine can be used for variety of crops and such as green-grain, black-grain, cowpea and soya beans. It can also thresh corn by changing the drum. Despite these effect rural and poor farmer in Nigeria continue to face challenges in accessing thresher, because of production lost of the machine or because the machine are not locally available. Adewumi et.al; (2012).
