2.4 FACTOR AFFECTING DECORTICATING OPERATION
There are many factor affecting the effect of shelling. The factors depends on following.
1.
Mechanical harvesting and handing process: This cause damage to the
crop during harvesting and handling was found to determine the
percentage of splitting an d percentage of damage groundnut.
2.
Moisture content: This was found to affect the efficiencies of shelling,
capacity of shelling, percentage splitting and cracking.
3.
Uniformity of the groundnut: It increased the capacity but with increase
in cracking and less percentage splitting when trusted.
4. 4Pod size: This factor also determine the shelling efficiencies and percentage damaging
2.5 THE QUALITY AND STORAGE OF DECORTICATING GROUNDNUT
Shelling
is consider as the pre processing for other processes of groundnut. The
International Labour Office (I.L.O) gave the important of quality and
storage consideration before shelling, It was outturned that the
following recommendation would be attained in other to successful store
groundnut
I. The temperature of the storage should be low
II.
The relative humidity should be between 65 to 70%, temperature above
70% the groundnut will lose weight and become brittle.
III. The
atmospheric condition of the store should be free of odour and should be
well aerated because groundnut absorb odour and flavor surroundings.
IV.
Test have show that the storage life of the groundnut begin in the
field. Therefore the groundnut should have a high initial quality. This
will affect improper storage. However, result show that the mixture
before shelling groundnut is stored are both determine factors to damage
cause when shelling.
2.6 EFFECT OF MECHANICAL SHELLING ON GERMINATION RATE
The damage that occur to grain including groundnut during mechanical processing effect the following properties
i. Viability of the nut
ii. The quality of the final product
iii. Growth vigor of the seeding
iv. Insect and fungi attack
v. Germination power of the seeding
vi. Storage.

CHAPTER ONE - [ Total Page(s): 1 ]CHAPTER ONEINTRODUCTIONGroundnut decorticator is a machine used in decorticating or shelling groundnut, shelling is the removal of kernel from pods. The spectacular increase in the use and number of hand operated decorticator throughout the northern states in Nigeria coupled with the poor quality of decorticated groundnut generally seen has made it necessary to recommend practices on the general operation and adjustment of the common hand decorticators So the manufacturing engineers brain ... consist of a hopper, double crack lever mechanism an oscillating sector
with sieve bottom and motor all fixed on a frame. A number of cast iron
peg assemblies are fitted in the oscillating sector and the fixed
perforated concave screen. The decorticated sheller and kernel fall
downward through perforated concave sieve. The kernel are collected
through the spot at the bottom, the shell are throw away after the
opera ... Continue reading---

CHAPTER FIVE - [ Total Page(s): 2 ]CHAPTER FIVE SELECTION OF MATERIALSIn the engineering sphere, to achieve the desire standard, strong valuable and very attractive high quality product. The selection of material for any fabrication work must be one as its best. The selection of material is therefore should be based on the properties of that material is to be used in relation to the purpose for which the project is giving to serve.Similarity the withstand certain amount of wad and the durability of such material should be sel ... CHAPTER SIX - [ Total Page(s): 1 ]CHAPTER SIX6.0 CONCLUSION Groundnut is one of the major cash crop that is widely grown in Nigeria because of its value as foreign exchange earner and has increase continues to generate interest. Shelling of groundnut is done locally as cracking the pod by hand, using mortal and pestle which are laborious and time consuming. This reason has call for the fabrication energy cost involving in traditional ways of shelling groundnut. The efficiency of the design fabrication groundnut ... Continue reading---
