      3.0     INTRODUCTION
      3.1    METHODOLOGY
      This chapter described the method and procedure used in carrying out research. It focuses on research design, area of study, target population sample and sampling techniques, instruments for data collection, validity and reliability of the instrument, method of data analysis and ethical considerations.
       3.2 RESEARCH DESIGN
      This research work was conducted using a descriptive design which aimed at examining the adolescent perception toward nursing as a career among S.S.S 3 students of selected senior secondary schools within Ilorin metro polis. This is mainly schools quantitative study and the interest was to describe the participants for the choice and factors influencing their participants about nursing as a career choice. Hypothesis generated were tested for relationships among the variables.
      3.2 AREA OF STUDY
      The study was carried out in Ilorin, Kwara State. The state is located in the north central geopolitical zone of Nigeria, shares boundaries with Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Niger state. Ilorin metropolises is the headquarters of the state with a population of 766,000 (NPC 2006) The city is divided into 3 local government areas, namely: Ilorin west, Ilorin East and Ilorin south local government area, and it has about twenty (20) political wards.
      Government Day Secondary School  Odo-okun was  located among opposite Kwara state college of education along Lagos Road, Odo-okun Ilorin West, Kwara state .
      Baboko community secondary school  Ilorin was located along Oja-oba road Baboko area, iloirin west local government area, Kwara state.
      Government girls day secondary school Oko-erin  was located in Ilorin west local government area, Oko-Erin, Ilorin Kwara state.
      The  school comprise of many ethical groups predominantly Yoruba’s, Nupe Igbos and other tribes.
      3.3 TARGET POPULATION
              The target population for the study were the S.S.S3 students of government day secondary school  Odo-okun , Baboko community secondary school Baboko and government girls day secondary school Oko-Erin, using a reliable measure irrespective of the type of the school or location of the school.


      3.4 SAMPLING TECHNIQUES
             The respondents were selected by random sampling procedure in which any S.S.S 3 students who were present in the class at the time of collection of data was given the questionnaire to answer.
      3.5 DETERMINATION OF THE SAMPLE SIZE
             The number of S.S.S 3 student of  Baboko community secondary school is 116. The number of S.S.S 3 students of government day secondary school Odo-Okun- 128.
      The number of S.S.S 3 students of government girls day secondary school Oko-Erin 98 total number of the S.S.S 3 students of selected secondary school is 340, hence the sample size was determine using the formula;

               N= standard desired sample size when population is less than 10,000.
