1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The primary aim of this study is to assess the effect of early pregnancy and abortion on teenage girl under 13 to 17. Specific objectives of the study are:

i. To determine the extent of early pregnancy and abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17.

ii. To determine whether early pregnancy and abortion has effects among teenage girls under 13 to 17.

iii. To examine the causes of early pregnancy among teenage girls under 13 to 17.

iv. To examine the factors that influence of abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17.

v. To proffer solutions to the menace of early pregnancy and abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17.

1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The following research questions will be answered in this study:

i. To what extent is early pregnancy and abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17?

ii. Does early pregnancy and abortion have effects among teenage girls under 13 to 17?

iii. What are the causes of early pregnancy among teenage girls under 13 to 17?

iv. What are the factors that influence of abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17?

v. What are the solutions to the menace of early pregnancy and abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17?

1.5 RESEARCH HYPOTHESES

To determine the effectiveness of this study, the following research null hypotheses will be formulated to guide the study and it will be tested at 0.05% levels of significance.:

Ho1: The extent is early pregnancy and abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17 is low.

Ho2: Early pregnancy and abortion does not have effects among teenage girls under 13 to 17.

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

Broadly, this study focuses on the assessment of the effect of early pregnancy and abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17. Specifically, this study focuses on determining the extent of early pregnancy and abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17, determining whether early pregnancy and abortion has effects among teenage girls under 13 to 17 and examining the causes of early pregnancy among teenage girls under 13 to 17.

The study further focuses on examining the factors that influence of abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17 and proffering solutions to the menace of early pregnancy and abortion among teenage girls under 13 to 17.

Selected teenage girls under the ages of 13 to 17 in Uyo will serve as the enrolled participants for this study.

1.7 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Teenage pregnancy has been a big worry not just for teenage females in Uyo, but for the entire country. This study may potentially serve as a pioneering initiative to increase awareness of adolescent pregnancy in the country. The study's findings may assist policymakers, namely educational planners in the country, in developing more relevant instructional programs on teen pregnancy.

The study's findings may also assist to raise awareness of some of the disorders connected with adolescent pregnancy, such as Vesico Virgina Fistular (VVF) and Rector Virgina Fistular (RVF). Additionally, the findings may serve as a foundation for future research on adolescent pregnancy.

1.8 DEFINITION OF TERMS

Tenage Pregnancy: Teenage pregnancy is when a woman under 20 gets pregnant. It usually refers to teens between the ages of 13-19. But it can include girls as young as 10. It's also called teen pregnancy or adolescent pregnancy.

Induced Abortion: An induced abortion is a procedure that is done to end a pregnancy. Most induced abortions are done in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Before the procedure, a test is done to confirm the pregnancy. The health care provider will ask questions about your health and perform a physical exam.

Teenager: is a young person whose age falls within the range from 13 -19.
