• Awareness And Prevention Of Sexually Transmitted Infections Among Women Attending Antenatal Clinic

    • This study was designed to investigate awareness and knowledge of sexually transmitted infections among women attending antenatal clinic. The study was guided by five research questions. The population consisted of 2931 women, which were made up of all the women attending antenatal clinic in Kuje area council, Abuja. The sample was 220 women attending antenatal clinic were randomly selected from population. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while t-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The data presentation was done in order of research questions, and the major findings were as follows; the women attending antenatal clinic have high level of knowledge of sexual transmitted diseases in Kuje area council, Abuja. 

      The women are knowledgeable on modes of transmission of STDs. Gender has influence on the level of knowledge of the women attending antenatal clinic on signs and symptoms of STDs. Gender also influences on women attending antenatal clinic’ attitude towards those living with STDs. Gender has a significance influence on women attending antenatal clinic’ attitude towards those living with STDs in Kuje area council, Abuja. The recommendations based on the findings of this research study were; Health workers should create awareness in secondary schools on the sexually transmitted diseases to help the women avoid them. Seminar and workshops should be organized, awareness through Pamplets and leaflets to intensify effort in assisting the women know the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases.
