1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This
study will reveal the causes and effects of common deviant behaviours
in some higher institutions of learning in Enugu. The finding of this
research will throw more light to how each member of the society is
contributing to the common deviant behaviour.
In this study, the
students will benefit from it by knowing the implications of deviant
behaviour in the academic, character and social life. Some students
indulge in it because their friends are behaving like that without
knowing what they are doing to themselves.
Society will also benefit
from it because when the student are behaving as expected, the society
will be happy, their norms, belief will be respected and the social
standard of the society will be improved.
Parents will be benefited because their children will be listening to their teaching.
The
institution will benefit also because when the students have changed
from their bad behaviour and turn to be new leave you see that there
will be order, peace, discipline and standard in the school which will
attract parents to sent in their children there.
It will further help
students to know how to behave well that is know the good behaviour,
know how to behave in the society, know the norms, belief and culture of
the society. Discipline in the school will be achieved. Respect and
obedience will be observed in the home
1.4 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The researcher, while carrying out this research project encountered the following problems:
There
was a limited time given for the research work which was not enough to
do thorough research. The researcher would have covered more than three
(3) schools, but it will need more time and spending of money which is
beyond the ability of the researcher.
Moreso, there was lack of
relevant textbooks. The researcher could not do much on the literature
review because of limited resource books, he was constrained to work on
few available books.
Finally, several attempts made to carry out
interview with some school lecturers were proved abortive. They were
either away on special duties or very busy attending to other matters.

1. What are the causes of deviant behaviour?
2. In what developmental stage does it normally occur?
3. What are the most common deviant behaviour in our institutions of higher learning today?
4. In what age range does deviancy occur mostly?
5. How does deviant behaviour affect students academic?
6. What extent has the society contributed to development behaviours?
7. How do we reduce the occurrence of deviancy in our schools?
