    • CHAPTER THREE
      RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
        This chapter deals with the method that would be used to collect relevant data for this study. They are: Research Type, Population, Sample and Sampling technique, Instrumentation, Procedure for Data Collection and Data Analysis Techniques.
      Research Type
      In this study, The descriptive survey would be used to investigate the factors affecting the teaching and learning of English is Primary School in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. Using the descriptive survey methods, events will be described the way they appear by using the questionnaire. According to Nwogi (1991), one of the advantages of using the questionnaire is that it allows for a number of people to be accessed within a limited period of time.
      Best (1981) defined descriptive survey as the recording, analyzing and interpregthxisting phenomenon in research. Daramola (2006) also defined a descriptive survey as the systematic attempt to describe the characteristics of a given population or area of interest.
       
      Population, Sample and Sampling Techniques
      The population for this study is all the Primary Schools teachers in Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria. The target population will consist the primary school teachers who have spent at least two years in teaching.
      The names of each school under Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara state will be written on pieces of paper, folded and mixed properly from which the selected at random. The simple random sampling technique was used in order to give all schools an equal chance of being selected for the study. In selecting the students as respondents for the study, purposive random sampling i used to select respondents the study.
      Researcher instrument
           A researcher designed questionnaire would be used to collect relevant data. The questionnaire would be grouped into two sections ‘A’ and ‘B’. section A’ will deal with the background information, while section ‘B’ consists on the factors affecting the teaching and learning of English is Primary  School in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. In section A, the respondents would pick from options provided. Section B consists of options such agree, strongly disagree and disagree.
           The researcher’s supervisor and experts from the department would go the research instrument to ensure that they have both face and content Validity. The final modified copies would then be produced. Then the test re-tests technique of three weeks interval would be employed to assess the reliability.
      Procedure for Data Collection
      The researcher will personally administer the questionnaire on the respondents after a letter of introduction would have been collected from the Head of Department Primary Education. The researcher would explain the purpose of the research to the respondents and request for ultimate cooperation from the various schools that are being used. The researcher will wait to collect the entire questionnaire administered before leaving each school. This is to avoid loss of the questionnaire administered.
      Data Analysis Technique
      Item-by-item analysis using mean and standard deviation would be used to analyze the data collected.
