      RESEARCH METHOD
      Introduction
This chapter will be discussed under the following sub-headings to guide the method and procedures that was used in collecting and analyzing data for the study, they are:
          Research Design
          Population of the Study,
          Sampling and Sampling Techniques,
          Instrument for Data Collection,
          Validity of the Instrument,
          Reliability of the Instrument,
          Procedure for Data Collection and
          Method of Data Analysis
      Research Design
The research design that was adopted for this study was be purely descriptive research design of the survey type. Questionnaires were used to collect information from the respondents. Ijaiya (2002) viewed survey research as a study which involves an investigation on entire population of people on items by collecting data from samples drawn from population and assuming that these samples are true representatives of the entire population. The design is appropriate as it generalized on the whole population the data collected from the sampled population.
      Population of the Study
The study population covered all the households in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, to study the incidence of malnutrition among children.
      Sample and Sampling Procedure
A sample selected for the study was two hundred (200) respondents selected from low income households in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara state. This was selected because that is where poverty can be found most which brings about malnutrition of children. Purposive sampling technique was used in selecting the household to ensure that relevant and valid information is acquired which makes the technique to be appropriate for the study.
      Instrument of Data Collection
Instrument to be used for data collected in this study is a structured questionnaire titled ‘Incidence of Malnutrition among Children’s Questionnaire (IMCQ). The questionnaire was made up of two sections ‘A’ and ‘B’ in which the section ‘A’ sought the demographic information of the respondents while section ‘B’ was made up of twenty four (24) items with four (4) items under each variable to elicit information from the respondents. The instrument was a closed ended type which limits the response on four likert type of scale, ranges from strongly agree to strongly disagree. The SA – strongly agree, A – agree, D – disagree and SD – strongly disagree. The scoring of the responses goes thus; SA = 4, A = 3, D = 2 and SD = 1 is only in the case negative items that the score were reversed.
      Validity of the Instrument
According to Adewale (2007), validity of instrument has to do with whether the instrument is measuring what it is intended to measure. To do this, three (3) three copies of questionnaire were given to three (3) experts including the supervisor in the Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin for Clarity of instruction to the respondents, Proper wording of the items and appropriateness and adequacy of the items in addressing the purpose of the study. The final draft of the questionnaire was designed in accordance with the correction made by the experts and after it has been vet by the supervisor.

CHAPTER ONE - [ Total Page(s): 3 ]Infections influence body size and growth through their effects on metabolism   and nutrition. Additionally, UNICEF conceptual framework also recognize poor caring practices as equally important cause of malnutrition (UNICEF, 1990). Environmental factors have a profound effect on health and can make nutritional problems worse. A child who is well fed but drinks contaminated water and lives in polluted environment will not grow up healthy (UN, 2004). Studies have shown the association between i ...
