favourable coping profiles (e.g. more active and less avoidant coping). Based on the above conceptualization, conscientiousness is considered to be similar with coping strategies (information and problem copings) as also conceptualized in this study.
Summary
People attach stigma to living with HIV/AIDS. Following that, people living with HIV/AIDS develop stigma consciousness – a psychological internal state that disposes those living with HIV/AIDS to believe or feel that others will negatively stereotype them because of their HIV/AIDS seropositive status. This situation can cause breakdown in immune system of PLWHA indicated in their CD4 counts. Thus, application of appropriate coping strategies such as social support, information, and problem copings will help to alleviate the psychological problem that may have been caused by stigma consciousness and in turn enhance improvement in immunocompetence. And, intervention measure using cognitive therapy can be useful in management of HIV/AIDS. Based on the foregoing reviews, the following propositions were made to guide the study and were tested at .05 level of significance. The propositions were stated in alternative directional as follow.
Hypotheses
1. People living with HIV/AIDS that scored low in stigma consciousness scale will tend to have higher immune system than those who scored high in stigma consciousness scale.
2. People living with HIV/AIDS who scored high in social support will tend to have higher immune system than those who scored low in social support measure.
3. People living with HIV/AIDS who seek information will be expected to have higher immune system than those who avoid information.
4. People living with HIV/AIDS who focus on problem will be expected to have higher immune system than those who avoid problem.
5 Interaction effects would be expected among stigma consciousness, social support, information and problem coping in influencing CD4 counts of PLWHA.

The study examined the
influence of stigma consciousness (a belief or feeling that one will be
negatively stereotyped by others) and coping strategies (social support,
information and problem) on the CD4 counts (measure of immune system) of People
Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Anambra state. 430 PLWHA (men=148 &
women=282), age (M=35.73, SD=8.4) years served as participants. Three Anti
Retroviral Therapy (ART) sites were randomly selected from the three senatorial
zones of ... Continue reading---
