1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS AND HYPOTHESIS

The following research questions guide the objectives of the study:

1. What is the level of adherence to the rule of social distancing as a means to control the spread of corona virus (COVID19) in some local governments in Osun state?

2. How effective is the use of social distancing in the fight against the corona virus (COVID19) in local governments in Osun state?

3. What are the factors affecting the efficacy of social distancing in the fight against the corona virus (COVID19) in local governments in Osun state?

4. What are the ways to effectively implement the social distancing rule in curbing the spread of corona virus (COVID19) in local governments in Osun state?

1.4.1 Hypothesis

H0: the use of social distancing is not effective in the fight against the corona virus (COVID19) in local governments in Osun state

H1: the use of social distancing is effective in the fight against the corona virus (COVID19) in local governments in Osun state

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY

The study on the efficacy of social distancing in the fight against corona virus (COVID19) in Nigeria will be of immense benefit to the NCDC osun state and her residents. The study will assist the health care sector decision making towards the control of the corona virus disease in Nigeria. The study will serve as a repository of information to other researchers, students and academic bodies that desire to carry out research on the corona virus disease. Finally the study will contribute to the body of the existing literature on the efficacy of social distancing in the fight against corona virus (COVID19) in Nigeria.

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

 The study covers on the efficacy of social distancing in the fight against corona virus (COVID19) in Nigeria with focus on five local governments (Ilesa east, Ilesa west, Olorunda, Osogbo and Ede south) in Osun State.

1.7 DEFINITION OF TERMS

SOCIAL DISTANCING: Social distancing, or physical distancing, is a set of infection control actions intended to stop or slow down the spread of a contagious disease.

CORONA VIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19):

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new virus. The disease causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing. You can protect yourself by washing your hands frequently, avoiding touching your face, and avoiding close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell.
