    • 1.3 Objective Of The Study

The main objective of the study is an assessment of knowledge on risk factor for the occurrence and strategies for the prevention of diarrhea among children aged 2-10 years in Uso community, Owo local government. Specific objectives are

      1. To explore the association of children’s socio-demographic characteristics with diarrhea among children aged 2-10 years in Uso community, Owo local government.

      2. To determine the association of mother’s socio-economic characteristics with diarrhea among children aged 2-10 years in Uso community, Owo local government.

      3. To explore the association between environmental factors and diarrhea among children aged 2-10 years in Uso community, Owo local government.

      1.4 Research Question

      1. What factors are associated with diarrhea among children aged 2-10 years in Uso community, Owo local government?

      2. What is the the association between environmental factors and diarrhea among children aged 2-10 years in Uso community, Owo local government ?

      1.5 Null hypothesis

H01: There is no significant relationship between knowledge and risk factor for the occurrence and strategies for the prevention of diarrhea among children aged 2-10 years in Uso community, Owo local government.

      1.6 Significance of the study

Since it has been shown that diarrhea has continued to be a public health problem globally, UN decided to introduce 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) which were adopted by many countries to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Goal three (3) states that we need to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Reducing the prevalence of diarrhea is part of this goal as it focuses on health promotion for all. Therefore, the study sought to identify the factors that are associated with its occurrence among children under the age of five years. The factors identified would help in strengthening the implementation of already existing policies, revising them as well as dissemination of health promotion messages to all.

This study is fundamental in addressing poor child health outcomes as understanding the level of knowledge and practices of caregivers with children between ages of 0-5years, allows for awareness creation that will create a strong basis for effective Behaviour Change and Communication (BCC).

This would supplement the knowledge concerning child health in developing countries, broadening the understanding on ways to address the reduction child mortality. Mothers especially childbearing women will benefit from the result of the study as it will provide them with appropriate information concerning diarrhea in children.

      1.7 Scope of the Study

The study was about diarrhea among children aged 2-10 years in uso community, owo local government. It looked at the prevalence and factors associated with diarrhea among this vulnerable but important age group as far as MDGs and SDGs are concerned. This study on the prevalence of diarrhea among children aged 2-10 years will be carried out in uso community, owo local government.

      1.8 Limitation Of The Study

In the course of carrying out this study, the researcher experienced some constraints, which included time constraints, financial constraints, language barriers, and the attitude of the respondents. However, the researcher were able to manage these just to ensure the success of this study.

      1.9  Definition Of Terms

Diarrhoea: Diarrhoea is usually caused by a virus, or sometimes, contaminated food. Less frequently, it can be a sign of another disorder, such as inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowel syndrome..

Prevalence: In epidemiology, prevalence is the proportion of a particular population found to be affected by a medical condition at a specific time.

      1.10 Organization Of The Study

This research work is organized in five chapters, for easy understanding, as follows. Chapter one is concern with the introduction, which consist of the (overview, of the study), historical background, statement of problem, objectives of the study, research hypotheses, significance of the study, scope and limitation of the study, definition of terms and historical background of the study. Chapter two highlights the theoretical framework on which the study is based, thus the review of related literature. Chapter three deals on the research design and methodology adopted in the study. Chapter four concentrate on the data collection and analysis and presentation of finding.  Chapter five gives summary, conclusion, and recommendations made of the study.

    • ABSRACT - [ Total Page(s): 1 ]Diarrhoea is among the major causes of mortality among children aged 2-10 years of age. Majority of these deaths are as result of dehydration and mismanagement. This study aimed to investigate prevalence of diarrhea among children aged 2-10 years. The objectives of the study were to: determine prevalence rate of diarrhoea,  knowledge on diarrhoea, practices on management of diarrhoea, and the association between knowledge and practices in management of diarrhoea. Failure of caregiver to have t ...
