    • This study was carried out on postpartum haemorrhage as the cause of death. Postpartum hemorrhage is heavy bleeding after the birth of your baby. Losing lots of blood quickly can cause a severe drop in your blood pressure. It may lead to shock and death if not treated. The most common cause of postpartum hemorrhage is when the uterus does not contract enough after delivery. Literature review was structured in three parts; conceptual review, theoretical review, and empirical review. The conceptual review discussed the concept of postpartum hemorrhage and maternal mortality, prevalence of postpartum hemorrhage, management of postpartum hemorrhage, and misoprostol in the prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage. The theoretical underpinning of this study was the Health promotion model.

The health promotion model notes that each person has unique personal characteristics and experiences that affect subsequent actions. Several literatures and other scholarly works were reviewed in the process of the chapter. These showed the different views and related concepts on factors contributing to postpartum hemorrhage as well as management and prevention. The study concluded that misoprostol can be used for the prevention and treatment of postpartum haemorhage. The study recommended that health stakeholders and agencies should engage in training and retraining of healthcare workers in method in the prevention and treatment of postpartum haemorhage in order to promote their knowledge to create awareness among women and mothers in communities.
