ï¶ Data Analysis Technique
Research Design:
The study is a descriptive research of the survey method. According to Daramola (2006), descriptive research is a systematic attempt described characteristic of a given population or area of interest factually. It involves large sample to ensure meaningful description and required empirical evidence through data gathering processes and hypothesis testing. In this study attempt would be made to examine the influence of home background performance in social studies in selected secondary school in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Population of the Study
The target population of this study will be all junior secondary school in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Sample and Sampling Technique
Stratified random sampling technique will be used to select ten (10) Junior Secondary Schools in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State. Random sampling technique would be used to select twenty (20) students from each of the ten (10) junior secondary schools. In all a total of two hundred (200) students would made up the sample subject of the study.
Research Instrument
The research would made use of a well structured questionnaire to elicit relevant information from the sample respondents. The instrument is tagged Home Influence on Students Academic Performance Questionnaire (H.I.S.A.P.Q).
The questionnaire consists of two sections (A and B) section ‘A’ seek for personal information of respondents such as sex, age, and some background information etc. while section ‘B’ would contain the items statement on the influence of home background on students academic performance in social studies.
Validity of the Instrument
To ensure the validity of the instrument for this study the draft copy of the questionnaire would be evaluated and validated by given it to researcher’s supervisor and other experts in the department and a test construction expert for their comments, amendment and suggestions.
Their opinions amendments and suggestions would be in-corporated into the final draft of the instrument, will ensure both face and content validity of the instrument.
Reliability of the Instrument
To determine the reliability of the instruments, the questionnaire would be subjected to test-retest method. The instrument would be administered on ten (10) students who will not be among the samples of secondary schools; the questionnaire will be administered twice after two weeks interval.
Person Product Correlation Coefficient will be used to determine the reliability coefficient of the instrument.
Administration of the Instrument
The instrument for the study would be administered personally by the researcher on the respondents in the selected secondary schools. The researcher will seek for permission from the appropriate authorities within the sample schools before the administration.
All completed questionnaire will be collected and collated for data analysis.
Data Analysis
Descriptive statistic of frequencies and simples percentage will be used to analyze the demographic data. All hypotheses will be tested using chi-square statistical tool at 0.05 level of significance.
