      1.3 Objective of the Study

      The main objective of the study is to examine the influence of social studies on culture among Yoruba people while the specific objectives are:

      1. To assess factors responsible for national disunity and social-political problems in Nigeria.

      2. To examine the effects of Social Studies education on Nation development.

      3. To investigate the nexus between social education, good teaching method, national stability, instructional materials and Nigeria culture.

      4. To find out the impacts of democracy on Nigeria culture and self-reliance in Nigeria fourth republic.


      1.4 Significance of the Study

      This study contributed to the existing knowledge in the academic field toward ensuring mode effective and efficient teaching of Social Studies in some selected schools in Nigeria. The result of this study enlightens both students and teachers on the important of Social Studies in correction of the various social miscreant social misdemeanors and social-political problem. It also enable the government official (leaders) in Nigeria to stop paying lip-service towards employment of more capable Social Studies teachers into various secondary school and college of education. It help the various individual to see the reason to improvement on the themselves educationally, socially, technologically and sociologically a part from Social Studies teachers to improve on their delivery mechanism. Lastly, it also serves as reference paint for those who want to embark on the similar study.


      1.5 Scope of the Study

      The study covered in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State. It focuses on the five (5) schools selected from the Ariba Local Government.

      Those schools are as follows:

      1. Isale Oyo Community High School, Oyo, Oyo State
      2. Opapa Grammar School, Oyo State

      3. Isale Oyo Commercial High School
      4. Oranyan Grammar School, Sabo, Oyo State5. Alafin High School, Oyo State

      1.6 Operational Definition of Terms

      The various terms used in the study will be define so as to avoid ambiguity on the parts of the readers.

      Social Studies: Social Studies can be defined as a way of seeing, viewing and approaching things with special regard to their proper and function in the ordering and management of man’s total natural, social and technological environment.

      Nigeria culture: Nigeria culture is the organism’s master motive the only read motive: “the tendency to actualized itself as fully as possible is the basic drive… the drive of Nigeria culture or it is a man’s tendency to actualized himself to become his potentialities… to express and activate all the capacity of the organism.

      National Unity: National unity is a feeling of being united as a country, especially in time of troubles. Ex-rather than be divided between east and west, a country feet united in the midst of war.

      National Development: National development is the ability of a country or countries to improve the social welfare of the people e.g. by providing social amenities like quality education, potable water, transportation, infrastructure, medical care etc.
