Therefore, the level instrument was moved and set-up at point 20m away from staff A. A back sight was taken to staff A, and recorded while a foresight was taken to staff B and recorded too. The difference in the height was obtained just as it was done previously.
B/S2 =1.588
F/S2=1.293
∆H2= B/S – F/S
∆H2=1.588 – 1.293= 0.295m
The difference between the first difference in height ∆H1 and the second height ∆H2 was done as written below:
Thus, difference in height (∆H) = ∆H2- ∆H1
∆H =0.298 – 0.295
= 0.003
Therefore Collimation error =0.003
Allowable misclosure = ±24mm√k where k is distance in kilometre
= ±24mm√0.030= 4.157mm
= 0.042
From the above value obtained, the error was quite negligible; hence the instrument was confirmed to be in good working condition for the project.
