      METHODOLOGY
      3.1    RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This is the systematic approach employed by the researcher in the process of collecting, analyzing, presenting and interpreting data. This chapter will gives an emphasis on the research method used, sources of data, data collection tools, research population and sample size, sampling procedure employed and statistical techniques used in data analysis.
      3.2    RESEARCH METHOD USED
The researcher made use of descriptive research in carrying out this research. This approach has made it possible for the researcher to capture the situation occurring in a particular organization.
An accurate description is necessary for making a wide range of policy decisions.
      3.3    SOURCES OF DATA
In the course of conducting this research work, two sources of data were adopted, they are:
      -    Primary data
      -    Secondary data
Primary Data: Primary data are collected from the source directly. These are data collected for the first time from the source to solve a specific and current problem. Primary sources constitute raw data.
Secondary Data: These are previously collected data and are used for some other purposes other than that which a research was originally meant for, secondary data were collected from text books, magazines and journals.
The secondary data has the advantage of economy, it saves time, effort, it provides information which could not have be obtained by the researcher and the data collected from secondary source are less subject to bias that may occur.
      3.4    DATA COLLECTION TOOLS
The researcher made use of various forms of instruments to gather data towards effectives and successful completion of this study, data were gathered from both primary and secondary sources. The primary data were collected with the aid or such tools as personal observation, questionnaires and personal interviews for the secondary data; some relevant textbooks on purchasing and supply, journals and some relevant articles related to this topic were consulted in many ways.
      QUESTIONNAIRE
This is one of the most important tools employed by researcher for the collection of data, it enables the researcher to obtained reliable and detailed information on the subject matter.
The questionnaire was designed in such a way that all the necessary information will be obtained with questions were drawn to cover a wide range of activities in value analysis and value engineering in United Foam Plc, Ilorin
The researcher tried as much as possible to present the question in a sample and clear ranging.
      INTERVIEW
Interview is a method of data collection involving a face to face contact between the researcher and the respondents as a result the researcher was able to interact with the respondents directly on the subject matter. The interview questions were both structured and unstructured.
      OBSERVATION
This method of data collection involves watching a particular events as they occur and thereby recording the result. The researcher in the course of this study watched some of the value analysis and engineering activities as they are being carried out in the company understudy and thereafter recording the result.
3.5    RESEARCH POPULATION AND SAMPLE SIZE
The research population for this study covers the whole of the manufacturing companies in the field of foam making, the sample size is however the United Foam Plc, Ilorin
